I’m Councillor Esther Pauls and it’s my pleasure to serve you in Ward 7 - Hamilton’s most populated ward!
Ward 7 is a thriving and vibrant urban ward, situated in the centre of Hamilton Mountain on the Niagara Escarpment.
Bordered by the Escarpment to the north and Upper Wellington Street to the west, the southern border runs along the hydro corridor, while its eastern border runs from the edge of the Escarpment along Upper Gage Road to the Lincoln Alexander Parkway, also known as the LINC (which connects Highway 403 with Red Hill Valley Parkway), then west along the highway to Upper Sherman, and down to Rymal Rd. East, ending at the hydro corridor. The Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway runs across the middle of the ward.
Ward 7 is home to picturesque Concession St. with its eclectic shops, neighbouring Sam Lawrence Park, the Sackville Hill Senior’s Centre, and a host of other beautiful parks and playgrounds, The Juravinski Cancer Centre (part of Hamilton Health Sciences) and CF Lime Ridge Mall.
Ward 7 is located within the Hamilton Conservation Authorities watershed.
Hamilton has been home for me for over five decades. As the mother of four boys who are now grown, my husband Gord and I were very active parents, coaching hockey and volunteering with organizations that help make our community stronger. On my path before serving as an elected official I found myself learning to run - and loving it - ending up an Ironman Athlete; Hamilton Torchbearer for the 2015 Pan Am Games; and frequent participant in Marathons all over the world. My service to various charitable causes has been deeply rewarding, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for numerous organizations. I was also honoured to be bestowed with a YMCA Peace Medal; Athena Award; YWCA Woman of the Year; Spirit Award and Jubilee Medallion Recipient from the Canadian Polish Congress. I remained honoured to have been elected to serve you as Ward 7 Councillor in 2018 and again in 2022.
We live in a city whose residents are of many diverse backgrounds, interests and opinions. My job is distilling these into a fair and accurate overall representation that reflects what matters most to the Ward 7 residents I represent. I care deeply that your voice is heard, and your concerns addressed. I always welcome hearing from you. My Ward 7 newsletter is published roughly every 6 weeks or so and often ignites one-on-one conversations with the residents of Ward 7. I encourage your thoughts, feedback, and suggestions too!

Like many who’ve sought a better life in Canada, my family boarded a boat in Palermo, Italy for a 10-day ride over the Atlantic. We came with nothing but were strong in faith, hope and determination. An infallible work ethic got us through.
I have a soft spot for new Canadians from all parts of the globe because I know first-hand the sacrifice and challenges that come from leaving your native homeland to start over - even in a country as spectacularly welcoming as Canada.
